Chronic Fatigue Syndrome TestChronic fatigue syndrome also known as CFS is a syndrome or a group of syndromes affecting the central nervous system, immune and many other organs present in our body. It involves severe mental exhaustion or depletion and the condition is worsened by trivial exertion. CFS occurs mostly in women due to immunological factors. But it has been reported in persons of all ages, including young children and particularly teenagers. Patients with this
diagnosis commonly report many symptoms such as pain, muscle weakness, loss of brain function, hypersensitivity, digestive disturbances, depression, immune system weakness and cardiac and respiratory problems. These symptoms range from mild to life threatening effects.
Most diagnostic criteria insist that these symptoms must be present for at least six months. Scientist insists that there is no cure for the fatigue. It is not caused by radiations treatment for cancer or diabetes. CFS remains a controversial diagnosis and its terminology and classification are also controversial.
Test for the disorder
Scientists reveal that CFS is largely an exclusionary diagnosis as there is no accepted conclusive test or series of tests for it. If a doctor suspects a patient may have CFS then the diagnostic process should be started by eliminating other potential causes of the patient's symptom. The primary reason for the diagnosis is the occurrence f the disorder if there is no other valid medical cause. If the disorder lasts for six months and does not improve by rest, then a patient is surely suspected to have a chronic fatigue syndrome. The additional symptoms are short term memory and concentration, sore throat, muscle pain, multi joint pain, headaches, unrefreshing sleeps and fatigue lasting for more than twenty four hours of exertion.
Historically, many doctors have been unfamiliar with CFS and some have even refused to diagnose it. But the situation is changing now. The increasing number of CFS cases has forced the doctors all over the world to study the disorder. Efforts are now being made about the study and cure of the disorder. It is a deadly disorder that could even take the lives of the patients suffering from it.
