Classic B-Movie Sci-Fi BombsWe Still Love Them!What is it that separates fine films, and the absolutely cheesy poorly made B-movies that we still seem to adore? Basically, the great party is what separates them. When you sit down with friends to watch a well-made movie, it just seems that everyone is meant to remain quiet and merely watch. With B-movies, such as sci-fi bombs, people tend to take a very lighthearted approach to the evening. This is wonderful if you have intended on having friends over, order some pizza, break out the chips and beer, and allow yourself to just laugh.
The great thing about B-movie sci-fi bombs is that you never have to expect a well-made movie that will win its share of awards. You can just sit and enjoy the corny off the wall production that makes these flicks fun. It
is said that bad taste can indeed be a blast. If you happen to be in with the cinephiles crowd, and you are expected to sip wine, and chat fine movies, you can be sure that there will be no showing of Godzilla Meets Rodan. What is really sad about this, however is that this type of film allows for people to heckle and make fun of something that was intended for just that. Classic B-movie sci-fi movies have captured the hearts of people all around the world, stemming from alien encounters to a giant gorilla named King Kong. Where all of this fun really is meant to truly entertain, not have you sit and ponder the meaning of life with a fleeting scene.
The differences of, The Brain That Wouldnt Die! and Memoirs of a Geisha, are anything by subtle. Story does not have to carry purpose or realism, it just has to have you watch and follow the plot of the movie. Good or bad as the plot may seem at the time, there is still some form of plot. Many evenings heading into the later hours, there are great B-movie marathons to keep people amused and laughing. This is great for the insomniac or someone who is completely bored out of their skull. Anyone who looks down their nose at classic B-movie sci-fis, need only to remember the fun that they had as children watching some of the greats like The Blob, or Attack Of The Killer Tomatoes! These forms of entertainment are just that entertainment, they are not meant to illicit a debate over where the world is going, nor are they meant to give you a life altering experience. They are made to make you relax and enjoy a movie with little to no class, poor acting at best, and soundtracks that would make any audiophile roll in their grave. This however, is exactly what makes this movie great.
Anyone who is into retro lifestyles, find these films to be classics and they should actually be awarded for the great service that they provide. Having ten friends over for an evening of great B-movie sci-fis can easily make for a fun filled event. Anyone who enjoys the likes of Godzilla, or Robbie The Robot, know that these films will never see the light of day in any true film critics personal home collection. Or will they? Lets not kid ourselves here; these movies were made a time ago, and are still going strong. They are not about to fall off the planet anytime soon. All this really means, is that people who truly do see the enjoyment and purpose in these great B-movie sci-fis, will have the opportunity to host B-movie parties until they themselves have become the Mummy. There are actually countless B-movie sci-fis available at your local video store for rental. These films are not out of date, as many would believe. There still is a very strong show of appreciation for these fine films, and the list seems to grow every year as young teens grow to young adults looking for corny, cheesy humor. Call up some friends, sit back with a beer and some nachos and enjoy an evening of fine movies, great laughs, and the memories that have kept you coming back to these flicks time and time again. You will not be disappointed.
