DIY Under-Floor Heating

Heating the living space is a must during the winters. One form of heating the homes is under floor heating. Under floor heating is one of the popular form of heating as it is inexpensive to install and economical. There is not much of maintenance and the heat is evenly distributed. The heat generated by DIY under-floor heating system has a soothing and comfortable effect.

What is Under-floor heating?

In conventional central heating the heat is convected
air that rises above the cold air and makes the ceiling warm. In under-floor heating temperature between the floor and ceiling is evenly distributed and is absorbed by people and objects in the room.

How under-floor heating function?

Warm water from the boiler system is circulated through the pipe embedded in the floor and is connected to a manifold. The manifold provides water temperature control, blending the hot water of the heating system to ideal and safe temperatures. A thermostat is fitted in the room and connected to an electrically operated valve which controls the temperature. Some DIY under-floor heating systems are easy to install and some may require the skill of a professional.

DIY under-floor Mats and Heating Systems

DIY under-floor heating system can be installed on any type of flooring - ceramic tiles, granite flooring and other natural stone product. The thin under-floor heating mats are very thin and easy to lie. Hot-water DIY heating systems produce enough heating provided right size pipes are used. These are installed within the concrete slab on under a wood sub-flooring system. The hot water systems require boilers or water heaters to generate the heat transferred by the heating pipes under the flooring.

Are under-floor heating expensive?

The cost of buying and installing the under-floor heating system is very much similar to the cost of buying and installing radiators. The under-floor heaters use lower water temperatures so are cheaper to run than other heating systems. The heating affords greater comfort due to even distribution of temperatures. Under-floor heating system can be installed in any floor type. However some considerations need to be given to the thickness and ability of the material to conduct heat. For instance carpet underlay should not be too thick and wooden floor should be less in thickness.
