Exercise and cerebral palsy-" getting better"Benefits: The exercise program should be individualized to meet the goals and potential of each person. The exercise is important for persons with disability due to cerebral palsy and neuromuscular disorder. It increases and maintains the heart and lung efficiency. It increases flexibility and the range of motion. This strengthens the body muscles and the bone structures and increases its endurance. This increases the individual
participation in the community activities. This induces the sense of well-being. It reduces several chronic diseases. The amount of exercise should always concern the age, trauma, fatigue and the fall.
Procedures: A brisk warm up for 5-10 minutes. The exact amount of the workout should depend on the temperature, humidity and the length of the workout. Thus gradually increasing he intensity, duration and the frequency of the exercise. The duration of all the exercises need to be planned properly, realistic performance goal need to be set in the starting and all this should be done with the physician's consent. This causes gentle activity of the body muscles. Exercises such as aerobics, aquatics, cycling, swimming, riding a bike for 20 to 30 minutes. A cool down procedure that lasts for 5 minutes or longer should be undertaken. This should include slow walking, slow wheeling and stretching exercises for the body muscles and joints.
Warm up techniques: The individuals should drink lots of water before, during and after exercise. The clothing and the footwear should be appropriate to that for the exercise. Headgear and the knee gear should also be taken. One should take lots of precautions while performing strenuous activities in outdoors, the clothing should be layered in order to prevent any thermal changes fro the cold to warm. When one is exercising outdoors at night, one should wear colorful exercise gear. The individuals should also know the required combinations of the exercise with the medication methods. Persons with significant contractures and or loss of bone density must do the little amount of weight bearing and joint flexing exercises with caution. The best options could also be getting involved in the laughter clubs that turns out to an outstanding exercise.
