Hawaii Student Film FestivalAccepting all kinds of videos from more than 400 public and private institutions in such a captivating island for humans to behold, the Hawaii Student Film Festival is an addition to the state's non- profit organization that recognizes the efforts of future motion picture makers. They are funded by The Alliance for Culture and Arts complied with its Community Federation.
The Hawaii Student Film Festival has about four primary agenda such as annual award's assembly, student television, web site and year- round outreach programs. Through their
constant collaboration with other civic groups they have already provided services and resources to the Hawaii Department of Education Career Pathways, Hawaii Department of Education Teleschool, University of Hawaii, Chaminade University, Kamehamha Schools, Radford High School, Farring High School, Boys and Girls Club of Hawaii, Big Brothers Big Sister of Honolulu, Pamela Young of KITV4 and Emme Tomimbang of Emme's Island Moments, to name a few.
Categories and winners of the Hawaii Student Film Festival are distinguished according to whatever will be submitted along the course of competition. Even if all of the entries are great, judges need to select the 21 finest to be showcased in the big screens and will get the opportunity to be receive awards such as Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. They will also have the chance to belong to class like Overall Entertainment, Overall Creativity, Overall Production as well as Storytelling, Directing, Acting and Editing.
"First Shot: The Secret Submarine Attack on Pearl Harbor" took home the 2006 Platinum Award in the Hawaii Student Film Festival. It is a 30- minute documentary that was created by the Hawaii Pacific University. It tells a story on the mysterious encounter between a Japanese submarine and American ward that was the one who initially shot leading the United States to World War I.
The latest winners for Gold Award are the following: "Sweet And Sour Brides" by 19 year- old Peter Tang, "Ku'u Pua" by 23 year- old Dallas Dietrich, "D.T. Fleming Arboretum" by 14 year- old Elliott Cost, "Rats" by 26 year- old Michael Evans, "Hanging In There" by 17 year- old Gerard Rupert. As for the Silver Awards, the winners are the following: "Pod iTheft" by 17 year- old Ryen Lung, "Hey Mama" by 17 year- old Ryen Lung, "Fix You" by 17 year- old Ryen Lung, "Got Worms?" by 5th graders of Pear Ridge Elementaty, "Hana Hwy" by 25 year- old Wangdu Hovey, "Anaeho' omalu Bay" by 12 year- old Mark Villarin and "K.S.B.S. Champions" by 17 year- olds Chahati Leslie, Adam Duncan & Randel Jim. For the Bronze Award, the winners are: "Deadly Lies" by 6th grader Sarah Nagaji, 'Subract The Ads" by Tanya Gomez and "The Unexpected" by 6th grader Melani Hermstad, to name a few.
