Heartland Film FestivalThe Heartland Film Festival is a non profit institution that was founded in 1991. The main purpose of the Heartland Film Festival is to acknowledge and honor film makers whose works artistically explores man's course in life and also aims to take the film industry to another level. The Heartland Film Festival is held on October annually in Indianapolis, Indiana. The Heartland Film Festival screens Truly Moving Picture from countries around the world. The Heartland Film Festival showcases a wide variety of films, ranging from dramas to documentaries to
animations.
The most prominent award in the Heartland Film Festival is the "Crystal Heart Award". The winner or winners of the Crystal Heart Award is given a trophy along with one hundred dollars in cash. Entries that are feature length, short films in dramatic, documentaries and children's films genres are eligible for this award. Every year, Heartland Film Festival awards the Crystal Heart Award to a chosen group of independent film makers. A grand prize for the Best Dramatic Feature is given along with fifty thousand dollars for dramatic film entries.
A "Jimmy Stewart Crystal Heart Memorial Award" is also given to the best student films. Dramatic, documentary or animated films of any length that are made by students are qualified for the Jimmy Stewart Heart Memorial Award. The winners of the said award will be introduced in the Crystal Heart Awards Gala.
Heartland Film Festival also gives out an award for films that are theatrically released that inspire, enrich gives hope to the viewing public. The award is called "Truly Moving Pictures". Films that have substance are the eligible for this award.
Heartland also gives out an award for individuals who bring inspiration in the film making industry for their contribution. The "Saab Pioneering Spirit Award" winners will be presented on the Crystal Heart Awards Gala.
The Heartland Film Festival launched a new video distribution program called the "Heartland Film Festival Video" in 2002. The new video distribution program aims to provide means for emerging independent films in order to gain wide distribution.
The Heartland Film Festival is a nine day celebration of film screenings, ceremonies and events. The opening day is celebrated with an opening ceremony held on various places in Indianapolis, Indiana. The said film festival also has a question and answer event with film makers on the opening night screenings. The Heartland Film Festival has awarded almost one and a half million dollars to support film makers in their quest for making excellent quality films.
Now on its second decade of honoring not just excellent quality films but also the emerging film makers. Heartland Film Festival also provides educational opportunities on film making to all aspiring film makers.
