High temperature insulation usually works best on the outside of the structure, by allowing the walls, floor and ceiling to stay at room temperature, which prevents condensation in the living area of the house. Generally, spray foam and rigid panel insulation provide the most bangs for the buck and work very effectively. A well-insulated house requires a vapor barrier because of the risk of condensation on cold parts of the structure with resulting damage.
