Laser Treatment for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

This is a painful progressive condition causing pain and numbness in the hands. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is mainly caused due to the compression or squeezing of the median nerve. There are eight carpals in the hand that form the carpal tunnel. There are flexing tendons in the tunnel and the median nerve passes through this space. The median nerve provides sensation to the base of the thumb and other fingers. The median nerve
controls the movement of the thumb and some fingers. Swelling of the tendons and the protective sheath around them in the carpal tunnel can also cause this condition. Though Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can occur at any age, it is more common after the age of 50.It is also known to occur more in women than men.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is generally caused by jobs involving stressing the wrist or repeated and forceful movements of the hands. Some such jobs are sewing, cutting and working on the computer for long. The main symptoms include pain, tingling sensation and numbness in one or both the hands. Patients also experience loss of strength and manual dexterity.

Laser treatment is non invasive and virtually painless. Laser treatment also speeds up cell repair and stimulates the immune, vascular and lymphatic systems. Low Level Laser Therapy is known to effectively heal Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. The Low Level Laser or Cold Laser is used for non -surgical treatment. Light or photon therapy has the unique ability to penetrate two inches below the skin increasing cellular metabolism. There is virtually no tissue damage. Laser acupuncture is an alternative therapy that involves the use of painless, non-invasive red laser light and microamps Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) to acupuncture points on the affected hand.
