Moondance Film Festival

Summary: The Moondance Film Festival may be the only film fest that promotes, encourages, educates and rewards non violent conflict resolution in arts and films.

The Moondance Film Festival may not be the most fun, nor is it the biggest, richest and the hippest but it is surely one of the most important film festivals that have emerged in the American soil. The Filmmaker's Alliance which is a non profit collective of film professionals that provides support for independent filmmakers declared the Moondance Film Festival as the third most important world film
festivals in December 2000.

It should be, since the Moondance Film Festival may be the only film fest that promotes, encourages, educates and rewards non violent conflict resolution in arts and films. The Moondance Film Festival's promotion is a bold venture to take, especially in a cinema that has been overflowing with violent and gratuitous acts but still being rated as PG-13.

Such promotions have made Moondance Film Festival highly viable, even if only serving as a balance to the contrasting genre of films. Others do believe of the Moondance Film Festival promotion, which involved companies such as IMSDb, The "O" Magazine, Holistic Health Tools, Film Commission HQ, Redstone Meadery, Vitalegacy Multimedia, Gruenberg Films, Starbucks, Safeway, Zoetrope, Variety.com, etcÂ…

Perhaps the Moondance Film Festival's most latent attention-grabber is its Annual Columbine Awards. This annual award is honored to authors and filmmakers of selected works which are entered on its annual event. It is open to any sexes, and works should promote pacifist virtues or even if without such depiction as long as it doesn't contain anything that could promote violence.

The Moondance Film Festival Administration, though, stressed that they won't reject violent entries as long as the major theme of the festival (which is the encouragement of non violent solutions) is upheld. They even encourage world war themed movies which can be considered as violent as any to be submitted as long as the overall theme does showcase these virtues of non violence (and how destructive can it be without). In fact, previous Columbine Award winners are films that feature troubles in the Gulf War, Northern Ireland, apartheid in South Africa, atrocities in World War I, Vietnam wars, and the Nazi occupation in Brazil.

The Moondance Film Festival's Columbine Award is therefore very much coveted if only because it is mightily hard to acquire. Just like the Oscar Award, the Columbine Award is one of the recognitions most artists vie to get.

The Moondance Film Festival is also a fair of opportunities. Here, artists, directors, producers and writers congregate to hunt for the next big project or deals. And so the Moondance Film Festival is often referred as the American Cannes.
