Nantucket Film FestivalWith the mission to encourage cultural awareness and ethnicity appreciation, Nantucket Film Festival carefully looks into the fine art of screenwriting in the dynamic world of motion pictures. It is the venue where movie enthusiasts such as directors and producers converge together in an atmosphere of ingenuity and partnership.
The Nantucket Film Festival sifts diverse kinds of entries be it independently created, studio produced, foreign documentary and short flicks not just the American premieres but even those that come from foreign regions. They are individually selected with those who
have eye for a great script.
In last year's Nantucket Film Festival, two screenplays were read. One was "Spectacle" where the first part of the Mark Rosen Chronicles by Stacy Weiss and Dan Chariton was presented. It was also in cooperation with Red Hour Films by actor Ben Stiller, who was also happened to be the director. The cast included Amy Sedaris, Macaulay Culkin, Lake Bell, David Krumholtz, Heather Burns, Sean Leonard and more.
The second referred to in the 2005 Nantucket Film Festival is "9/ 11 Kevin" by George Bradshaw and Stephen Garvey. It was done together with TriggerStreet.com, a company that was established by Kevin Spacey, a two- time Academy Award winning actor. His business seeks to provide undiscovered talented motion picture enthusiasts, who may be lacking with connections or funding. They have this interactive program where they can present their masterpieces as well as receive critiques from the colleagues around.
"Sideman" was the choice in 2004 where it was an adaptation of Warren Leight's Pulitzer Prize. Its cast involved Bill Irwin, Lukas Hass, Tom Cavanaugh and Cynthia Nixon. The previous year, it was "A Confederacy of Dunces" by Scott Kramer and Steven Soderbergh where the characters were portrayed by Will Farrell, Mos Def, Olympia Dukakis, Paul Rudd, Kristen Johnston, Rosie Perez, Anne Meara, Alan Cumming, Dan Hedaya and Celia Weston.
One of the most exciting activities they have is the "Late Night Storytelling" where it has been a tradition in order to keep it alive as the years pass by. There are six who tell their narratives without any notes and script. In the past, the following individuals graced the show such as Jim Carrey, Jerry Stiller, Tina Fey, Mos Def, Laird Hamilton, Jesse Martin, Ted Hope, Olympia Dukakis, Celia Weston, Paul Rudd, Kristin Johnston, John Shea, Alan Cumming, Peter Farrelly, Anne Meara and Rosie Perez.
Other interesting line- ups are the "Morning Coffee With..." where it is lasts for an hour- long discussion with prestigious guests invited in the cinematic carnival. It is the time where some will reveal what was the exact that took place behind the cameras. There is also "In Their Shoes: Panel Discussions" where it is a series of talks on the bolts and nuts of the industry. Speakers such as from the Politics and Film or Writer- to Writer Roundtable relay the unique issues that are dealt with.
