Sound InsulationAlthough homes are built taking into consideration most of the aspects and requirements for a comfortable living, what is often ignored is the problem of noise or sound pollution. It definitely does not make sense to expect a quiet house when it is located near or within a noisy neighborhood, roadways or airport. Sound insulation is the answer to problems arising out of increase in noise levels in and around the
house.
When should sound insulation be undertaken?
It is advisable to include sound insulation right at the time of construction of the house or building. Choosing the right kind of insulation material which can be easily installed in the walls and panels while construction is still on will go a long way in providing maximum sound insulation. Batt or blanket insulation or even fiberglass is considered to be a good sound insulation material. Layers of insulation may be used if any particular room or part of the house will be used for noisy parties or evenings. This will keep the others areas of the house from being disturbed due to high noise levels.
Other ways of preventing noise
Although sound insulation is the best solution to preventing noise, there are other ways in which noise pollution can be controlled. Sealing gaps and leaks where air may leak through can bring down noise levels. Holes in walls and any other cracks should be sealed using a good sealant. Installing solid doors which are the biggest openings in any wall will also help to a great extent. Surfaces that absorb sound are also recommended by home décor experts for those who prefer living in quieter homes and surroundings. Using soft materials such as padded carpets and acoustic ceilings is also recommended.
Sound insulation contractors
Most construction companies and engineers would be able to guide the homeowner on sound insulation techniques and materials. It is always advisable to make the home sound-proof right at the time of construction of the house. This will save a lot of money in installation costs as well as in utility bills over a longer period of time as well.
