They are trying to regulate the competing services, such as satellite and cable internet, so that they compete more realistically. Finally, the government is trying to educate consumers about the benefits of broadband, hoping to create more need for the technology. As broadband availability is spread across the country, there are more and more people taking advantage of it. For those who choose not to have broadband at home, they can go to coffee houses, libraries, and other hot spots to access public broadband connections. With information delivered to consumers at a much faster speed, the government hopes to help stabilize and grow the American economy, as well as increasing technological advances. The government also wishes to have those living in more rural, agricultural areas not lag behind when it comes to technology.
