When the Warner-Amex Cable System based in Columbus opened the cable system QUBE, which offers a handful of satellite specialty channels designed for a specific audience. These channels include HBO and Pinwheel which would later be called "Nickelodeon".
Intended really for children, Nickelodeon instead gained notoriety with the older audience when they released their first "nicktoon" in 1990 called the
"RugRats". Though they still retain their younger audiences, Nickelodeon's animated television series conjure dark humor, surrealism, unique commentary, and absurd humor which added adults to its viewers . And what should turn out to be its downfall had become instead the film producer's chief key for success. Prime examples of this Nicktoons include RugRats, Ren and Stimpy Show, Invader Zim, Dexter's Lab and of course, the highly applauded Spongebob Squarepants.

From the name, no one could miss the fact that Nickelodeon the event called "The Nicktoons Film Festival". The Nicktoons Film Festival is a television series though, not an event like the Cannes. But the judging bodies are animation professionals that include Seth McFarlane of Family Guy, Bill Plympton of The Tune, Andreas Deja who is a Disney animator veteran who did works on Little Mermaid, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, Who Framed Roger RabbitÂ… and JG Quintel, the last year's Nicktoons Film Festival winner. Past judges a still of distinguished status like John Kricfalusi of Ren & Stimpy Show, Gabor Csupo of Rugrats, Eric Goldberg of Looney Tunes: Back in Action and Mark Hamill of Avatar: The Last Airbender and the StarWars fame. The Nicktoons Film Festival showcases the best animation in a 10 minute span format.
The Nicktoons Film Festival is truly a worldwide sensation event. Since the "Call for Entries" starting date, the Nicktoons Film Festival organizers received a hundred of submissions all over the world.
The lucky entry will receive as stated above $10,000 as Grand Prize, though an honor award will also be handed down based on excellence in animation, story, design, and entertainment value. Because of the abundant of high quality entries and participants that kept increasing over the years, the Nicktoons Film Festival offered alternative prizes for the "Show Off Your Show" contest that include Producer's Choice, Student Animator Award, and Greater Creator Award.
