The Top Classic Christmas Movies Still Enjoyed TodayWhile it may seem like action and romance films are what garner the most attention when it comes to movies, many people find it hard to pry them from the quaint and classic Christmas flicks. Christmas movies have always struck the sentiments of the holidays, and many families make it a point to gather after dinner and watch a lovely story that involves hope and appreciation for their fellow man. There are too many films about the holidays to even contemplate noting, these movies range from the classic to the off the wall humor. There are some movies however, that just command an audience at Christmas time just on sheer appeals alone. Here is a break down of possibly the ten best Christmas movies of all time.
10) Holiday Inn (1944)
This is one of the most magical and eye catching Christmas films of all time. Starring Fred Astaire and Bing Crosby, this film is set in a quaint inn, which is open only on the holidays. With the typical singing and dancing one would expect from this wonderful pair of performers, this great film
tops in at number ten on the all time classic Christmas movies list.
9) Meet Me In St. Louis (1944)
This four time Academy award nominee earned much in the way of appeal, with a star studded cast including the likes of Judy Garland, Lucille Bremer, Margaret OBrien, and Joan Carroll. The idea about this film is that a family in St. Louis fined out that their father accepts a job transfer to the Big Apple, just before Christmas. What made this Christmas classic so great was the little song that Judy Garland entertained the masses with Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas.
8) A Tree Grows in Brooklyn (1945)
Coming in at number 8 is this wonderful film about a family in the early 1900s era. This family was rather poor, and was battling family alcoholism. After loosing a family member, the family feels it has lost all spirit for the holidays. One specific family member however, never did loose hope and showed the world what it takes to believe in miracles and that dreams do come true. This movie starred James Dunn and Dorothy McGuire.
7) The Lemon Drop Kid (1951)
This film, which is in the Bob Hope Collection, sets the lemon drop kid Sidney Melbourne in a troubling situation just prior to Christmas. After inadvertently helping a woman loose her gangster boyfriends money which amounted to the sum of $10,000, and was to be for a winning bet it was up to the kid to show the world why Christmas is so special and that the spirit is alive in all of us. This film is a true classic, and showcases exactly why Bob Hope was so special.
6) Christmas In Connecticut (1945)
When a woman sets out to impress her boss, and finding herself fibbing to get where she needs to be, the fun and nostalgia of this sort of film really takes over. Barbara Stanwyck takes on the role of Elizabeth a woman who cannot even boil an egg, yet she finds herself telling her boss that she is an excellent cook and this prominent food writer sets herself up for all kinds of problems for the holiday. This is a wonderful and witty film that will please the crowd.
5) A Christmas Carol (1951)
Who could ever forget the incorrigible Ebenezer Scrooge, from the classic Dickens tale A Christmas Carol? Set in 19-century London, this wonderful movie transforms a nasty tyrant of a man, into a kind-hearted gentleman during the holiday with the help of three ghosts. This movie is a timeless classic that the entire family will enjoy, for many years to come.
4) The Bishop's Wife (1947)
This classic tale is about a Bishop who sees nothing more than work, and eventually looses sight of his family and somehow forgets exactly why he became a clergyman. This is where an angel of mystery comes into place, which just happens to be played by Cary Grant. The Christmas theme is abounding in this lovely tale that brings a man and his family back together again.
3) White Christmas (1954)
Albeit the fact that most classic movie lacks the big budget action of the films made today, they still manage to capture the viewers hearts and imaginations. This film is said to be a fun and inventive story about two war friends who start a sing and dance route together, set in the holiday period Bing Crosby and Danny Kaye steal the show.
2) Miracle On 34th Street (1947)
Given the fact that this movie has seen its share of remakes the original is still the best, and for good reason. This film is another great story with a star-studded cast. This story is about an elderly man who believes he is Kris Kringle and, women who feels sorry for his confusion. Always a classic during the holidays this film is sure to delight the crowd.
1) Its A Wonderful Life (1946)
For good reason this film has to be the most loved and appreciated Christmas film of all time. Set in the period of Christmas Eve, a man is considering suicide and finds himself face to face with a heavenly angle that shows him exactly what Christmas means and that taking his own life will hurt all involved in his life. This movie will surely stop your heart and allow you to remember the true meaning yourself.
